Ganesha on Throne - Eco Friendly Idol
This Ganesh Chaturthi, pledge to Go Green - Buy Only Eco Friendly Ganesha Idols.
During the holy festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, millions of devotees bring home Ganesh idols and observe Ganesh pooja at their residences in order to seek the Lord’s blessings and gain good fortune and prosperity in their lives. After the pooja, the idols are immersed in nearby ponds, rivers and lakes which pollute the waters of these water bodies severely.
Most idols nowadays are made from Plaster Of Paris (POP) since it is a light-weight alternative to clay. Plaster Of Paris, however contains several harmful elements such as sulphur, potassium, magnesium, which prove fatal to the environment, especially that of our nearby water bodies. Furthermore, the paint materials that are used to color these idols contain toxic substances such as mercury, cadmium, lead and arsenic which have the ability to make water bodies extremely acidic, thus killing of fish and other organisms.
Fortunately, there are alternatives to using idols made from such polluting materials. Eco-friendly Ganesh idols are made from clay, paper or natural fibers, which are bio-degradable (they dissolve in water easily and cause no harm). An increasing numbers of pooja organizers and devotees are opting for the use of eco-friendly Ganesh idols every year. It is a great way to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesh, while also being mindful of our environment.
