Govardhan Pooja

Lord Krishna is one of the most popular Avatars of Lord Vishnu. He is revered by millions of Hindus everywhere who are keen to seek his divine blessings. Hailed as Svayam Bhagvan or the Supreme God, the legends and myths related to him have been fascinating mankind for thousands of years.

Importance Of Govardhan Pooja

Govardhan Puja, also known as  Anakoot (a heap of grain), is performed through out the country on the next day of Diwali. On this day, Govardhan hill (a small hillock in Braj near Mathura) was lifted by Lord Krishna to protect the people of Gokul and Vrindavan from the heavy rains caused by Indra’s anguish. Through that incident, Lord Krishna taught people to worship nature.
On this day, a mountain of food is decorated representing the Govardhan hill and then is worshipped by the people. This pooja is performed with great zeal and enthusiasm. In certain states like  Haryana, there is a tradition of building cow dung hillocks, which represents the Mount Govardhan and then they decorate it with flowers and worship them. They move in a circle all round the cow dung hillocks and offer prayers to Lord Govardhan.

3. This pooja helps devotees to face obstacles and gain success.

4. One can gain Moksha or salvation by performing this pooja.
